These past few months have been very hard on us. The hotter the summer gets, the more and more homesick we become. Waco has been very good to us these past two years. I can't deny that. Dan has a great job that he loves. I am starting to blossom in my work. We have two goofy cats that we love dearly, and have made some great friends. But... being so far away from family, friends and the state we love is wearing us down.
It's hard to want to invest yourself into a city that you plan on leaving in 2-3 years. But if you don't lay down roots, how can you expect to feel "at home" with your surroundings?
A few months ago we decided that we needed to invest ourselves more seriously into Texas. We have come up with a "Texas Bucket List". Some things on the list are simply places we want to visit (Big Bend, NASA in Houston, Fredericksburg, etc), but we have also included some random things like finding an armadillo, going to a rodeo.. and some things we have been meaning to find time to do (having friends over for dinner, volunteering, etc).
So far this list has been a great motivator. We have gone horseback riding.. explored more local hiking trails.. added to our board game collection.. volunteered at a homeless shelter.. participated in the Race for the Cure.. been adventurous veggie eaters (Dan loves mustard greesns -- who knew?!)... and the list goes on. We've had a lot of fun trying new and exciting things.
